Mexico City Airport to the Centre: Metrobús, Metro or Taxi

From Mexico City International Airport (MEX/AICM), check the Metrobús Line 4 airport service first if your address is near the Centro Histórico or Paseo de la Reforma route. It serves both terminals. From Terminal 1, the nearby Terminal Aérea station on Metro Line 5 offers a lower rail fare but requires an onward route and a walk. An airport-authorized taxi gives you a direct road option to your address.
This guide is for Benito Juárez airport, code MEX. Confirm the airport code and arrival terminal on your flight booking before planning the transfer; instructions for another Mexico City airport are not interchangeable.
Metrobús: choose the city stop before boarding
The airport lists Metrobús boarding at Terminal 1, door 7, and Terminal 2, door 2. Follow current signs and confirm that the vehicle serves your chosen city stop. AICM boarding information
Choose the stop nearest your hotel using the official airport-route guide. Line 4 has different branches: do not assume that every bus with that line number serves the same stops. Save the walking route from your chosen stop to the accommodation.
For Bellas Artes, confirm the stop and any change before boarding. The detailed operator route guide could not be retrieved during our 9 October check, so we are not presenting a particular interchange as a freshly verified instruction. Ask at the airport stop or use the current operator map for your travel day.
The airport bus costs more than an ordinary Metrobús ride
The official Mexico City airport guide lists the airport bus fare as MXN30 per person. Its MI card guide lists a new card at MXN15 before travel value is added: a new card and this ride therefore total MXN45.
AICM lists card-sale and reload machines in the boarding or alighting areas of both terminals. Follow current signs rather than treating a machine location as the bus boarding point. The city airport guide also describes contactless bank-card and digital-wallet payment; check that the validator on your service accepts your intended method before relying on it.
| One-way airport bus example | One traveller | Two travellers |
|---|---|---|
| Already have suitable cards with value available | MXN30 | MXN60 |
| Each buys a new card and one airport ride | MXN45 | MXN90 |
These examples use the airport fare and card price confirmed in the city guides on 9 October 2026. They cover the airport ride only. Check the payment and transfer conditions for each traveller before assuming that onward transport is included; sharing a card does not by itself establish a free connection for everyone.
Metro from Terminal 1: cheaper fare, more handling of bags
AICM places Terminal Aérea station beside T1 at Boulevard Puerto Aéreo and Avenida Capitán Carlos León González. It is a city Metro station, not the train between airport terminals. Airport directions to the Metro
The city airport guide identifies Terminal Aérea on Line 5 and lists a MXN5 Metro fare. Use the network map to choose the interchange and final station for your hotel; Line 5 is not a direct train to the Zócalo. From T2, compare the bus at your own terminal before adding an interterminal journey to reach the Metro.
Think through the whole route with the luggage you actually have: the walk out of T1, station entrances, changes and the final pavement to the hotel. The low rail fare can be a good fit for manageable bags and an uncomplicated onward route. With bulky luggage, children or mobility needs, check accessibility for every interchange before choosing it.
Airport taxis and prebooked pickups
AICM maintains a list of authorized airport taxi operators. Use that list to identify an operator and its official contact. Request a total to your exact address and confirm the vehicle, payment method and boarding location before setting off. AICM authorized taxi list
There is no single taxi price in this guide for “downtown”: the useful comparison is the whole vehicle quote to your hotel against the full public-transport cost for your party. Include any tolls, additional stops and luggage charges in that discussion. Traffic affects both taxis and road-based buses.
For any app or prebooked car, obtain the actual pickup instructions for your terminal. A reservation does not by itself establish permission to collect passengers at every terminal door. If the driver cannot be contacted or the meeting point is unclear, use the airport information desk to confirm an available alternative.
Travelling with a pet? Say so in the first request
In one Mexico City enquiry, our support team explained how to request a car and driver for journeys in and around the city, including where to add special requirements. The traveller then asked about bringing a dog. If you are travelling with a pet, please tell us in your first request. Include its size and whether you will use a carrier, and ask the transport provider to confirm acceptance, space and any extra charge before you book.
Late arrival: check a departure, not just opening hours
The city Metro guide lists network hours of 5am–midnight on working days, 6am–midnight on Saturdays and 7am–midnight on Sundays and public holidays. These are service hours, not a promise of a train from your platform at midnight.
AICM lists general Metrobús hours of 4:30am–midnight Monday to Saturday and 5am–midnight on Sundays and public holidays. These are not a verified last departure from the airport. Check the airport-end timetable and service notices for your day. Allow for immigration, bags and finding the stop; landing time is not boarding time. If service is ending, compare a confirmed taxi or pickup.

AICM boarding information and the linked official city guides were checked on 9 October 2026.
