Athens to Rafina Port: Bus Connections and Ferry Timing
Company-authored guide. Sources and their check date appear below; no independent or first-hand review is claimed.

Start with two details: where you are leaving from, and when your ferry requires you to be at Rafina. An airport arrival and a hotel pickup in central Athens need different plans. Choose the bus connection or road journey only after allowing time to reach the correct ship—not just the town.
From central Athens: confirm the regional bus stop
KTEL Attikis publishes a stop guide for Athens to Rafina identifying Nomismatokopeio metro station. Treat that as the starting point for planning your connection, then confirm the current boarding point and departure with KTEL. Do not head to Syntagma expecting a direct Rafina bus simply because you are staying there.
The operator's live timetable and fare pages could not be verified for this update. We therefore do not quote a departure frequency, last bus or ticket price. Before committing to this route, obtain the day's departure, the arrival stop in Rafina and the fare for your actual party. Ask whether that service reaches the port or requires a further walk.
For the metro approach, check current service notices too. The official Athens guide, checked on 7 October, warns of Sunday-to-Thursday evening closures from 21:40 on part of Line 3, including Nomismatokopio, with replacement bus X20. Recheck the notice for your travel date; a metro connection shown on a map may require a different journey that evening.
From Athens Airport: look for the Rafina KTEL service
Athens Airport's transport guide lists a regional KTEL connection to Rafina. This is a different journey from X95 to Syntagma or X96 to Piraeus. If your ticket says Rafina, a bus to Piraeus takes you to a different port.
The airport's page gives conflicting locations for the Rafina stop: Exit 5 in its regional-bus section and between Exits 2 and 3 opposite Sofitel in its port section. Ask the airport information desk for the current Rafina KTEL boarding point and follow the current signs. Confirm the departure before walking out with your luggage.
Work backwards from boarding, not sailing
Use the ferry operator's boarding deadline from your booking. Then allow for finding the ship, any ticket collection, the journey to the port, waiting for a connection and reaching your first stop. For an airport arrival, add passport control and baggage collection before transport can begin. A scheduled landing time is not a pickup time.
Here is an illustrative calculation, not an operator rule: if your booking requires you to be ready to board by 08:00 and you allow 20 minutes from drop-off to the ship, your transport needs to reach the agreed port stop by 07:40. Work back further using the departure and travel allowance confirmed for your day. Add a buffer for delays; neither a car nor a bus guarantees the ferry connection.
| Starting point | Plan to compare | Confirm first |
|---|---|---|
| Central Athens hotel | Connection to the KTEL stop + bus, or a direct road pickup | Current city boarding point, arrival stop and ferry deadline |
| Athens Airport | Rafina KTEL service or an agreed airport car pickup | Terminal meeting point, usable departure and luggage collection time |
| Early ferry or late arrival | A service confirmed for that time, or an overnight stay before sailing | Actual availability and whether the connection leaves enough margin |
Compare the whole party's journey
For public transport, include the trip to the regional-bus stop, every passenger's eligible fare and the final approach to the ship. For a car, compare a quote for the same pickup address, date, passengers and bags. Ask about tolls, child seats, waiting and the exact drop-off point. A city-centre airport taxi price does not establish a fare to Rafina.
A booked road pickup may be worth comparing when carrying several bags, starting far from the bus connection or travelling outside a verified service's hours. If the bus fits your ferry and you can manage the connections, it remains a useful alternative. Keep the ferry ticket and driver or operator contact details available offline.
Get offers for your Rafina pickup
To compare a road journey, get transfer offers on GetTransfer.com. Enter your actual Athens pickup address or airport, Rafina port, passengers and luggage. Add the ferry name and required arrival time in the journey details. Before booking, confirm the meeting point, total price and waiting terms with the carrier; a request alone does not confirm a vehicle or guarantee the ferry connection.
