Hong Kong Airport to Disneyland: Train, Bus or Taxi?

From Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) to Hong Kong Disneyland, compare the all-rail Airport Express route with the cheaper S1 bus and MTR combination. Both involve changes. A taxi is worth pricing for a family with bags, especially when your destination is a resort hotel rather than the park.
First decide whether you are going to the park or a resort hotel. Disneyland’s Public Transport Interchange (PTI) is not your hotel reception. The resort provides free shuttles for Disney hotel guests between the PTI and its three hotels. Disneyland transport information
The train route: two changes and a payment condition
- At the airport, follow Airport Express signs and take a train towards the city.
- Leave at Tsing Yi. Change to the Tung Chung Line in the Tung Chung direction.
- At Sunny Bay, change to the Disneyland Resort Line.
- At Disneyland Resort, continue to the park or the hotel-shuttle interchange for your final destination.
MTR lists the Airport–Tsing Yi adult fare as HK$73 with Octopus and HK$80 with a Smart Ticket. For children aged 3–11, the corresponding figures are HK$36.50 and HK$40. These are the fares checked on 4 October 2026. MTR Airport Express fares
The onward MTR journey can be included when you use the same Octopus and make the interchange within one hour. Only the MTR journey immediately before or after the Airport Express qualifies; MTR also limits the intervening Octopus transaction records. Keep using the same card and check the conditions rather than buying an unrelated rail ticket by habit. Do not assume the Smart Ticket includes this connection. Free MTR connection conditions
As a worked example, two adults and two children aged 3–11 paying those Octopus fares total HK$219 one way: 2 × HK$73 + 2 × HK$36.50. This assumes each traveller meets the connection conditions and already has the appropriate Octopus; buying cards adds to the initial outlay. It excludes luggage storage and any hotel transport charge outside the stated guest shuttle.
Bus alternatives: count the second leg
Citybus lists S1 between the airport and Tung Chung Station at HK$3.70 per adult. From Tung Chung, take the Tung Chung Line towards Hong Kong and change at Sunny Bay for Disneyland Resort. Citybus route and fare list
The Tung Chung–Disneyland Resort adult Octopus fare is HK$15.90 in MTR’s chart effective 20 September 2026. Together with S1, that is HK$19.60 one way per adult, assuming you already have an Octopus. This is the complete bus-and-rail fare, not a transfer-time estimate. MTR fare chart, page 7
The saving comes with a bus-to-train transfer, another train change and your own luggage handling. Check the next S1 departure and use the airport’s bus information and stop map to locate the current boarding point. Airport Express avoids the road leg, but still requires the two train changes described above.
A separate bus option changes to R8 at Lantau Link Interchange. Disneyland explains the connection from A/E services, but check the selected airport bus actually serves that interchange, the R8 direction and the combined fare with its operator. Do not board a bus merely because its number begins with A or E. Disneyland bus connections
A taxi may simplify the hotel journey
Disneyland lists red urban, green New Territories and blue Lantau taxis as serving the resort, with park pickup and drop-off at the PTI. At the airport taxi rank, show the destination in full: the park PTI or the name and address of your hotel. Check the vehicle’s seats and luggage space before loading.
Compare the expected whole-car charge, including luggage and any applicable extras, with the total rail fare for your party. Do not compare one adult rail ticket with a taxi for four. A taxi removes the public-transport changes, but road traffic and the taxi queue still affect when you arrive. For a prebooked car, confirm the meeting point and flight-delay waiting terms separately.
Your luggage can change the cheaper option
Disneyland’s Luggage Valet on Park Promenade near the MTR station lists HK$150 per piece per day. Inside the park, the HK$150 lockers measure 45 × 35 × 43 cm. These services are accessible during park operating hours; lockers cannot be used for overnight storage. Official luggage-storage rules
Two pieces left at the valet therefore add HK$300 to a park-first visit, regardless of how you reached the resort. If you have a hotel booking, ask whether it can store your bags before check-in and compare the extra hotel stop with that storage cost. Do not assume an early flight arrival means the park or luggage service is already open.
Two Disneyland visits can need different return plans
One Hong Kong request sent to GetTransfer support combined a cable-car outing, an evening harbour cruise and two Disneyland visits. It asked for an evening park pickup on one day and an earlier return before an airport transfer on another. If your park visit shares a day with a flight, work backwards from airport check-in and agree each pickup separately: the park-to-hotel ride and the hotel-to-airport ride are different legs.
Check the return before entering the park
For a flight the same evening, work backwards from your airline’s airport-arrival requirement. Add time to retrieve bags, reach the PTI or station, wait, travel and find the correct terminal. A quoted train ride does not include all those steps. Check the MTR service hours and the final bus or hotel shuttle you need; do not use park closing time as the last departure time.
