Aranui Cruises will launch a new ship, the ARANOA, in 2027, offering new South Pacific travel experiences.
ARANOA's Features
"Aranoa" means "awakening" in Tahitian. The ship can host 198 guests in 93 cabins, with 62 of them featuring private balconies.
Onboard, you'll find:
* Two restaurants
* Two bars
* Two whirlpools
* A boutique
* A spa
* A fitness center
* A tattoo salon
Economic Impact
Romina Wong, Aranui Cruises' Marketing, Communications, and Operations Director, emphasized the company's commitment to supporting remote Tahitian island economies. The ARANOA's launch extends this support to the Austral Islands, boosting tourism and delivering essential supplies.
Wong said that this is the "first cruise series dedicated to bringing tourists to the Austral Islands regularly.” Passengers will see impressive scenery, experience the local culture, and explore the islands.
Sustainable Design Details
Currently under construction in China, the ARANOA is a mixed passenger/freighter vessel, measuring 116 meters in length and 21 meters wide. It incorporates several eco-friendly features:
* Eco-friendly antifouling coating to increase fuel efficiency.
* Propellers designed to reduce acoustic impact, protecting marine life.
* Stabilizers and dynamic positioning for smooth sailing.
Austral Islands Exploration
For over 40 years, Aranui Cruises has been transporting passengers and cargo to the Marquesas Islands, offering unique cultural experiences. The Aranui V will continue these voyages, while the ARANOA will focus on cargo cruises to the Austral Islands.
The Austral Islands, located south of French Polynesia, remain largely untouched by mass tourism. The archipelago includes Rimatara, Rurutu, Tubuai, Raivavae, and Rapa, and features a diverse scene of mountains, lagoons, and beaches.
Archaeological sites reveal a pre-European society with rich cultural and religious practices. Visitors can witness traditions and a sense of timelessness, capturing the true essence of Polynesia.
Each round-trip cruise from Tahiti includes excursions to local villages, allowing passengers to experience the local lifestyle and meet artisans who create artwork using traditional techniques.
Final Thoughts
The ARANOA aims to improve South Pacific cruising by combining adventure, cultural immersion, and economic support for local communities. Experiencing these destinations will be more impactful than anything you read about them.
One thing I'd suggest: consider travel insurance that covers medical evacuations from remote areas. Worth it.
