Your Pena Palace entry time is not the time to arrive at Sintra station—or even at the park gate. Build the visit around three separate stages: Lisbon to Sintra, the uphill connection to the park, and the final approach to the palace inside it. A car booking changes the first stages; it does not remove the palace’s entry rules.

Work backwards from the palace ticket

The official Pena ticket page says the selected time is for entry to the palace. It advises allowing about 30 minutes between the park entrance and the palace. Include that inside-park allowance after your transport journey; do not spend it waiting for a bus outside.

For example, a 14:00 palace ticket means the operator’s 30-minute allowance starts around 13:30 at the park entrance. That is a planning calculation, not a guaranteed arrival target: add time for ticket checks, queues and your own pace. Choose transport only once the entry slot and the necessary buffer make sense together.

Train to Sintra, then bus 434

Parques de Sintra’s access guide lists CP trains from Lisbon’s Rossio, Oriente and Entrecampos stations to Sintra. It then lists bus 434 from Sintra station/Lourel Car Park toward Pena. The train reaches the town; it does not deliver you to the palace entrance.

Pick the Lisbon station that fits your starting address, check the train departure and then the bus connection for your day. Keep the train and bus tickets in the comparison, along with your return journey. If travelling with children or several companions, count the full party’s tickets rather than comparing one adult fare with a whole-car quote.

What to agree if you book a car

The monument’s official guide says private-vehicle access is restricted and recommends public transport or walking routes. Do not assume that a booking with “Pena Palace” as the destination authorises access to every road or puts a car outside the palace door.

Before accepting a quote, ask for the legal drop-off point and the remaining journey from there. Use the access guide’s map of stops and pickup points, and ask the provider to confirm what is actually permitted. A quote to a Sintra meeting point and one that includes an agreed permitted uphill leg cover different journeys.

The climb inside the park

The ticket page describes a steep route and a separately purchased internal transfer between the park entrance and the palace area. The operator says to buy the internal-transfer ticket in advance. That service is different from bus 434 and from your road transfer from Lisbon. Check its current conditions rather than assuming one ticket pays for all three.

If someone in your party has limited mobility, read the venue’s accessibility information before choosing the visit and transport. Tell the road provider what assistance is needed and confirm the remaining route with the venue. “Drop-off at Pena” is too vague to establish a step-free journey.

Plan how you leave, too

Agree the return meeting point and contact details before you set off. For a road booking with waiting, check whether waiting during the visit is included, its duration and any extra charges. For train and bus, check return services and leave room for the park exit and connection. A timed palace visit is easier to enjoy when the journey home is settled.

To compare a car journey from Lisbon, get transfer offers on GetTransfer.com. Give your Lisbon pickup address, passengers, palace entry time and an agreed permitted destination or meeting point. If you want a return ride or other stops, describe them explicitly. Confirm the total price and the remaining route to Pena before booking.
