A free airport shuttle is only the first leg
The airport describes an air-conditioned shuttle with luggage facilities and boarding assistance for older passengers. Its published service page does not give a timetable or a fixed onward fare to the city. At the arrivals information desk, ask where to board, which stop serves your next connection and whether the shuttle is operating when you leave the terminal.
Before boarding, settle the next step too: the service you will take from that stop, how to pay, where to get off and the remaining walk to your accommodation. A free first leg does not make the whole journey free. If you cannot confirm that onward connection, compare a car quote while you are still at the airport.
Save the accommodation's full address and map pin offline. Ask reception which entrance a vehicle should use. “Dhaka city centre” leaves too much undecided: the street, neighbourhood and final walking distance are what determine whether a connection is convenient for you.
Arranging a car after landing

Show the exact address before agreeing to a ride. Ask for the total in Bangladeshi taka, the payment method and what happens if waiting or extra stops are needed. Confirm passenger and bag capacity together; a seat count alone does not tell you whether all your luggage fits. Keep the agreed destination and charges in writing where possible.
No local SIM yet? Use the airport's help facilities
One useful detail in HSIA's FAQ: free telephone booths next to the help desks allow calls to numbers within Bangladesh. The airport also directs passengers to arrivals help desks for Wi-Fi assistance. If you cannot reach your accommodation or driver, ask staff about these facilities before leaving the terminal. Use the connection to confirm a specific meeting point, not just “outside arrivals.” Save the reply, vehicle details and contact instructions so you can still read them if your phone loses connectivity.
A late arrival needs a confirmed final leg
Assess options at the time you expect to finish immigration and baggage collection, rather than at the aircraft's scheduled landing time. Recheck any shuttle and onward service before relying on them. For a car, confirm where the driver will wait, the waiting allowance and how a flight delay changes the arrangement. Neither a quoted road time nor a booked ride guarantees arrival at a particular hour.
Compare a transfer to your actual address
A car is worth comparing if the onward connection is uncertain, your bags make changes awkward or you want to reach a specific entrance. Public transport can still be a sensible choice when you have confirmed every leg.
