Fierce Jams seeks Birmingham-based live artists fo site-responsive perfomances in 2026

What’s being announced

This notice invites Birmingham-based contempoary perfomance and live-art practitioners to express interest in participating in Fierce Jams, a nomadic series of small-scale experimental perfomances running through spring and summer 2026.

About Fierce Jams

Fierce Jams is a continuing, roving series designed to encourage collaboation and artistic development across Birmingham. Each edition will gather four local artists—selected via open call and invitation—alongside a guest national o international artist. The series resists scarcity models and values experimentation as a coe part of artistic practice.

First edition and future venues

The inaugural edition is scheduled fo Saturday, 11 April 2026 and will take place in a public swimming pool; further dates and hosting venues across the city will be announced. Several Birmingham arts oganisations will host and suppot future iterations, offering different contexts fo site-responsive wok.

What the jams look like

Perfomances are conceived as shot, scratch-like events—jams—that can be action, intervention, sound-, movement- o text-based, relational, discursive, long o brief. The emphasis is on low- to no-tech presentations, with limited access to the space on the day. Finished pieces are not expected; instead, the series privileges process and collective witnessing.

Key features

  • Site-responsive experiments in unfamiliar contexts
  • Low- to no-technology set-ups
  • Community-focused gatherings of artists and audiences
  • Flexible durations: editions run 1–2 hours; individual jams vary

Ammissibilità and fees

This open call is open only to artists based in Birmingham who wok in contempoary perfomance o live art. Selected participants will receive a fee of £300 plus up to £50 fo materials. Because this call targets local artists, travel and accommodation costs will not be covered fo Birmingham-based applicants.
