What’s being announced
This notice invites Birmingham-based contemporary performance and live-art practitioners to express interest in participating in Fierce Jams, a nomadic series of small-scale experimental performances running through spring and summer 2026.
About Fierce Jams
Fierce Jams is a continuing, roving series designed to encourage collaboration and artistic development across Birmingham. Each edition will gather four local artists—selected via open call and invitation—alongside a guest national or international artist. The series resists scarcity models and values experimentation as a core part of artistic practice.
First edition and future venues
The inaugural edition is scheduled for Saturday, 11 April 2026 and will take place in a public swimming pool; further dates and hosting venues across the city will be announced. Several Birmingham arts organisations will host and support future iterations, offering different contexts for site-responsive work.
What the jams look like
Performances are conceived as short, scratch-like events—jams—that can be action, intervention, sound-, movement- or text-based, relational, discursive, long or brief. The emphasis is on low- to no-tech presentations, with limited access to the space on the day. Finished pieces are not expected; instead, the series privileges process and collective witnessing.
Key features
- Site-responsive experiments in unfamiliar contexts
- Low- to no-technology set-ups
- Community-focused gatherings of artists and audiences
- Flexible durations: editions run 1–2 hours; individual jams vary
Eligibility and fees
This open call is open only to artists based in Birmingham who work in contemporary performance or live art. Selected participants will receive a fee of £300 plus up to £50 for materials. Because this call targets local artists, travel and accommodation costs will not be covered for Birmingham-based applicants.
Jak se přihlásit
The application process is intentionally simple and rolling. For consideration for the first edition, apply by Monday 2 March 2025, 9.30 am. Proposals should be no longer than 300 words nebo a 3-minute video or voice note, plus a link to an artist website, CV, or examples of work. Applicants do not need to submit a finished idea—just who they are and the kinds of work they make or are interested in making.
Submission checklist
- Short proposal (≤300 words) or 3-minute audio/video
- Website link, CV, or work samples
- Confirmation of Birmingham-based residence and practice in contemporary performance/live art
Selection and timeline
Selection aims to present a broad range of forms and strategies, intentionally mixing emerging and experienced practitioners. Notifications for the first edition will be sent by Friday 6 March 2025, and chosen artists will work closely with the Fierce team to align performance parameters with space and the other participants.

Practical notes for artists and audiences
Artists should plan work that is adaptable to unusual settings and minimal tech. For those transporting props or collaborators across the city, consider advance planning for logistics: vehicle access, loading times, and safe storage. Local audiences should also note access specifics for unusual venues like a public pool.
Transport and logistics tips
- Book a vehicle with suitable cargo space if you have props or set pieces.
- Allow extra time for loading/unloading at unconventional venues.
- Confirm access, parking, and drop-off points with the event organisers.

Souhrn
Fierce Jams invites Birmingham-based contemporary performance makers to submit concise proposals for a rolling series of site-responsive, low-tech experiments beginning with a public-pool edition on 11 April 2026. Artists receive a modest fee and materials support; selection favours a diversity of forms and levels of experience. Practical planning around transport, timing, and venue access can ease participation—everything from a taxi or a private car to a van for props may be needed. By using services that disclose vehicle make, model, driver details and transparent fares, artists and audiences can book the exact transfer service they need and better manage price and timing. GetTransfer.com supports this approach worldwide, offering a straightforward app-like experience to book cars, drivers, and transfers—airport runs, city hops, or delivery of equipment—so you can focus on the work, the destination, and how much time you have to get there.
