New Evening Tours Aboard Purple Electric Buses
Tourists visiting Delhi will soon have a fresh way to explore the city's iconic landmarks with the introduction of distinctive purple electric buses. These buses will operate evening tours starting from the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, moving through popular destinations such as Bharat Mandapam, War Memorial, the new Parliament complex, and Dilli Haat. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the experience for both domestic and international visitors by offering a dedicated sightseeing option after museums close for the day.
Distinctive Features of the Purple Buses
The buses will be nine metres long and fully electric, hired from the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). Their eye-catching purple color, adorned with images of famous Delhi landmarks like the Signature Bridge and India Gate, will set them apart on the busy city roads. This makes them easily recognizable for tourists looking to catch a ride and marks a step forward in environmentally friendly city transport.
Tour Pricing and Onboard Amenities
The fares for this unique sightseeing experience are thoughtfully priced at Rs 500 for adults and Rs 300 for children aged between six and twelve. Each bus will feature a knowledgeable guide who provides informative commentary about the historical and cultural importance of the stops along the route. This approach adds a rich narrative layer to the journey, making it far more than just a ride.

Revitalizing Sightseeing with Targeted Circuits
This project is part of a broader tourism development strategy, including a new circuit covering several landmark sites announced by Delhi’s Chief Minister. Also on the table were discussions regarding reviving the hop-on-hop-off (Ho-Ho) bus model, which had been halted due to the pandemic. However, due to Delhi's notorious traffic, officials believe that this model may not be practical for regular intervals, and thus the focus shifted to these targeted, fixed-route tours on specially designated buses.
